“It was like a white-out, but I came because I said I would.”
What a great attitude on the part of Ellen “Buzz” Bizzell! Ellen is with the Ruidoso Parks and Recreation Department, and was one of the Ruidoso village employees who braved a recent severe snowstorm to participate in the recent “Group Fitness Day Expo” at the Ruidoso Athletic Club.
Ellen’s attitude is also the only attitude that will work, if one is dedicated to improving one’s health.
Ellen and other village employees were invited to participate in group fitness classes and learn how to promote their own wellness. They are also offered a discount on their memberships to do so.
On the exercise menu during the expo were Zumba Gold (Latin dance class), group swim, BodyPump, RPM cycling and more.
Debbie Jo Almager, director of parks and recreation, also in attendance, said “I love it... For me, it’s a way of life. If we can get another 10 percent, 20 percent of the city employees, that would be great!”

Almager also went on to explain that the new wellness program operates on the “honor system,” and takes only a few hours a week, whether at a gym like the Ruidoso Athletic Club, 415 Wingfield Drive, participating in “Walk in the Park,” at the library park, or at home.
For more information on this program, contact Debbie Jo Almager, at 575-257-5030.
The R.A.C. is also the location hosting the annual Sprint Triathlons, and swim events for RHAA — Ruidoso High Altitude Aquatics. Free tours are offered at the R.A.C., and more information is available about all programs and events by telephone, at 575-257-2555, or at the Website www.ruidosoathleticclub.com.
The R.A.C. is located behind Ruidoso’s midtown area at 415 Wingfield Street, Ruidoso.
